First IAAE Regional Summit a success

5 May 2018 marked the first I AM AN ENTREPRENEUR regional summit.

Following 4 years of hosting the I AM AN ENTREPRENEUR series across all the South African provinces, the programme has been made bigger and better to cater for the needs of most entrepreneurs including a format change in the running order of the day.

The mass-mentorship initiative is the brainchild of media entrepreneur Andile Khumalo, CIO of MSG Afrika. Khumalo said the initiative to date had brought some of the notable business people in the country face-to-face with emerging entrepreneurs and it was time to step change in the 5 th year. “This allows young people in business to hear stories of people that have [made] the journey and get to ask all the questions they need answered. It’s all about access”

This one day Summit saw a mixture of Educational, Skills Development, as well as Entrepreneurial Leadership content led by experts in various fields. International Speaker and audiobook author Justin Cohen started off the full day summit by equipping the entrepreneurs with practical tips on how to ‘Pitch to Win’. This set out to be the perfect start to the Summit with entrepreneurs making notes and feeling confident about their next pitch.

Newly appointed Google Africa CMO Mzamo Masito was also part of the experts and entrepreneurs on the line up. “Education is the only way to cure ignorance”- Mzamo Masito started off his address encouraging education, knowing consumers and creating brand love to build African brands for the foreseeable future.

The entrepreneurs in attendance got to learn how to effectively use the internet to grow their businesses from Google Africa’s Nivani Govinder – Head of SMB Marketing Sub-Saharan. This insightful expert shared some free Google My business tools that entrepreneurs can explore in this digital world that we live in.

Most entrepreneurs would die for an opportunity to be taught one of the critical tools in running your business and being an entrepreneur…NEGOTIATING. The Gap Partnership’s Campbell Graham helped sharpen those skills to better seal your next deal.

Endurance and soldiering on through the journey was the key takeout from the panel which saw entrepreneurs Dr. Thandi Ndlovu and Dawn Nathan-Jones who also empowered entrepreneurs with real-life tools for success. Both entrepreneurs took us through their entrepreneurship journey, highlighting key factors that lead to their success also joined by Head of SME customer
segment at FNB Business, Jesse Weinberg who was the last member of the panel.

The “ I AM AN ENTREPRENEUR” Summit has attracted as partners some of the biggest corporate companies and entities in the country as it is powered by FNB and supported by MTN Business, also including Renault South Africa as a vehicle partner just to name a few. The Summit hosts over 300 entrepreneurs and following a sold out Johannesburg, the team head over to Durban next on the 23 June 2018.
